Central Basketball Association of the Deaf
Hi All--
The men's division at the national tournament will be a 16-team format. It is highly likely we will have a Division 2 tournament, unless we have more than 8 men's teams who finished below third place in their region, & who are serious enough to send their $300 team entry fee (non-refundable) asap. If we fill all 16 slots, and still get 8 more, then we will look into opening Div 2. Any team that is SERIOUS about participating in USADB needs to send entry fee NOW, even if their regional tournament has not yet taken place.
Of course, our players at the national tournament want a quality tournament with competitive games. We do not encourage teams to enter national tournament with less than 8 players attending. The current timeline makes it impossible to wait until 2 weeks before the tournament to decide. Teams need to buy airline tickets, and fares have been extremely high for months.
To summarize:
Teams that finish 1st and 2nd are automatically guaranteed a spot in the top 16. All teams pay $300 entry fee, except regional champions (from regions affiliated before Feb 1). Third place teams will be used to fill any potential empty slot from 16 teams.
IMPORTANT!!! Criteria we will use for team selection to fill these spots:
1) First or second place teams in regions affiliated before Feb 1.
2) Teams who send $300 non-refundable deposit on first come, first served basis (from 3rd, 4th, 5th place teams etc.)
3) Order of finish in their region (3rd, then 4th, etc)
4) Strength of the team overall as compared with other teams nationwide
5) Team's history of participation in USADB
The women's division will be 12 team format as in past.
NOTE: If, for some reason, we cannot accept a team (such as too many teams and not enough slots, or similar), we will refund the $300. If the team itself withdraws -- no refunds.
Thank you all for your patience while we try to sort this out. If you have any questions, do let us know.
